Northwest Reno is bounded by Interstate 580 to the east, Interstate 80 to the south, the Somersett development to the west and Peavine Mountain to the north.

The Old Northwest is home to the University of Nevada Reno, which is surrounded by an eclectic mix of older single-family homes, duplexes & triplexes, small apartment buildings and pockets of tree-lined streets with bungalows built originally for faculty. Nearby Rancho San Rafael, home of the Great Reno Balloon Race, is a gracious county park with an impressive arboretum, museum and acres of green space and miles of walking trails.

The New Northwest features a wide range of suburban homes, many with downtown views given the slightly higher elevation. Most homes in the area are on standard city lots, and most are not a part of any homeowner’s association.

Further West is the community of Somersett, which features two beautiful mountain golf courses – the 18-hole Championship Tom Kite course and the Canyon Nine course.
